Getting started
Puck is a sidekick that floats over whatever you're learning and walks you through it, one step at a time.
Press Download at the top of this page and open Puck. A small dock appears at the bottom of your screen. When you run it for the first time, Puck will take you on an onboarding experience.
Puck is powered using either an API key (just from OpenAI for now), or your ChatGPT account.
Talking to Puck
Hold Ctrl, ask your question, and let go. Puck will answer.
If the answer depends on what's on your screen, Puck will take a look at your screen and if need be, point things out on screen.
If you want to cut Puck off mid-sentence, hold Ctrl and start talking. No hard feelings.
The notebook
Open it from the dock. Highly recommend logging your learnings here. Notes stored on your computer locally. Puck can't write to it directly. Unless you use the /teach-me command.
/teach-me
Type /teach-me on a page and tell Puck what you want to learn. It asks you a few questions to find out where you're starting from, then writes a short lesson for you. Nothing goes on the page until you decide to keep what Puck's written.
Connect a page
Clicking Connect to Puck allows Puck to read the page every time you talk to it. Paste in a tutorial, create a lesson plan with Puck, or just have Puck go over your own notes so that it has an understanding of your progress.
Bookmarks
Hover over a line and click the bookmark in the margin to mark how far you've got. Puck picks up from the line after it.
Settings
Underneath the hood, Puck uses AI to guide you. You can set that up in one of two ways at the moment:
An API key
Puck talks to OpenAI with your own key, and OpenAI bills you for what you use. Get a key at platform.openai.com/api-keys (opens in a new tab), paste it into Settings and press Save. It's stored encrypted on your computer.
Your ChatGPT account
Sign in with ChatGPT and the words of every answer come from your Plus or Pro plan, at no extra cost. The plan covers the text only, so Puck's voice still needs a key, or the local voice models that you can download as shown below. This way you avoid paying for another subscription if you just want to try Puck out.
Voice
How Puck hears you and speaks back is a separate choice, under Voice model.
OpenAI
OpenAI's voices, paid for with your API key. The quickest to answer.
Local model
Runs on your computer instead: one download of about 1 GB from Settings, and your voice never leaves your machine. It needs no key, paid plan, nothing. A bit slower depending on your machine than using the API key tho.
